Madera County Man Is Central San Joaquin Valley's 1st COVID-19 Death

A Madera County man in his 60s is the central San Joaquin Valley’s first coronavirus death, according to the Madera County Public Health Department.
Case No. 6 was listed as “deceased” on the health department’s coronavirus page Thursday at 4 p.m.
According to a chart of the county’s cases, the man acquired the virus via “person-to-person” transmission.
Madera County has reported 10 positive tests for COVID-19. One man has recovered, a woman in her 70s is hospitalized, and the rest are in home isolation.

Fresno County Confirmed Cases Jump to 27

On Thursday, Fresno County reported 8 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19, raising the county’s total to 27.
“These new identified cases indicate that there is evidence of community-spread in Fresno County, but the extent is still not clear,” said county health director David Pomaville.

• 3 Community spread/unknown source
• 7 Under investigation

Dr. Rais Vorha, the county’s health officer, urged the public to continue practicing good hygiene and following stay at home guidelines.
“Small steps related to cleaning and social distancing really can save lives by slowing down the spread of this infection, which is now being detected in our community,” he said.

Kern County Cases Double

Public Health Services reported 32 positive tests Thursday. That is double Wednesday’s total.
Officials report 1,556 COVID-19 tests, with 643 negative and 880 awaiting results.

Kings County Reports No Cases

An employee at California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran, has tested positive for coronavirus, ABC30 reports.
But Kings County Public Health is still reporting that no county residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
Official say that no residents are being monitored for the virus, either.

Mariposa County Reports No Cases

There are no confirmed cases in Mariposa County. Officials report 34 people tested with 20 negatives. The results of 14 people are pending.

Merced County Confirms 2 Additional Cases

The county Department of Public Health confirmed two cases of COVID-19 Thursday, bringing the total to four confirmed cases.
The new cases are under investigation, officials said.

Stanislaus County Cases Increase by 5

The county now reports 17 confirmed COVID-19 cases, an increase in 5 since Wednesday. The county also reports 653 negative test results.

Tulare County Cases Increase to 20

Officials reported one additional positive case on Thursday, taking the county’s total to 20.
The county has 125 residents under self-quarantine.
Tulare County also announced that the first patient diagnosed with COVID-19 in the county has fully recovered from the disease.
